Short Essay On Diwali Festival for School Kids

Diwali is one of the most widely celebrated of all the Indian festivals. It is celebrated with great pomp and show in different parts of the country. There is a series of celebrations that is spread across a number of days. The festival starts with buying new ethnic clothes, attending pujas, taking the blessings of all the elder members of the family, eating variety of dishes, and then also bursting crackers. It is a great way to showcase and celebrate the win of good over evil.

The festival is mostly celebrated after Durga pooja and falls somewhere in between mid-October and November. The most popular reason as to why the festival is celebrated is that it is this day when Lord Rama had won a battle against Ravana who had abducted his wife Sita. The day also marked the homecoming of Lord Rama along with his wife Sita and brother Laxman after 14 long years of exile. The homecoming of the lord was celebrated as people lit what is called lines of diyas to welcome their future king. However, different communities have their own reasons of celebrating the festival. For example, according to the Jain religion, it is on this day that Lord Mahavira attained his much-needed enlightenment. The Jain community celebrates this day as Diwali.

No matter whatever be the reason for celebrating Diwali, it remains one of the most-awaited festivals in certain parts of India. The festival sure is a personal favourite too!
